January 11, 2009 ... I was finally able to squeeze in a couple more hours of shop time today. So, working from the center to
the outer edges, I removed the wingnut Clecoes, and finished riveting the forward upper part of the leading edge. Then, I turned the
wing back over, installed the wingnut Clecoes to draw the leading edge into final position, and starting from the center and working
outward, finished riveting the leading edge. I am very happy with the way my wing looks. Now, on to the final fit of the wing tip
and NAV light/strobe fairing.
Here is the landing light lense installed in a trial run after riveting the wing leading edge (top view)..
January 17 & 18, 2009 ... I attached the clay form for my NAV/strobe extension to a piece of 1 X 6 board, and attempted
to make a Plaster of Paris mold. That ended up being a disaster. I didn't succeed in getting all of the air bubbles out, and there
was a big one near the form. So, I tossed that mold out. Call me stubborn, but I tried making another Plaster of Paris mold, but poured
the plaster a little wetter and tapped like crazy to remove the bubbles. We shall see ...
January 19, 2009 ... I opened the second mold today. 'Still no good! Too many air bubbles. I think I am going to make a fiberglass
mold instead, but I need some additional materials first. In the meantime, I spent the rest of my shop time today
fitting the metal wingtip to the left wing, and pre-drilling it. I also added a stiffener bracket to the inside.
What a mess!.
