May 12, 2008 (Continued) ... Here is a photo which shows the pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the left aileron. The first five forward
rivets are to be located an inch apart. For some reason I went a little overboard and located the first six rivets 1 inch apart (red
arrows), which threw all of the other successive holes off by 1 inch. So I have one hole at each rib that does not land on the
rib (yellow arrows). I will still put a rivet in it to plug it, and no one will know the difference (except you of course!).
May 13, 2008 ... Today, I finished updrilling the hinge, made the cutout for the aileron counterbalance, and went
through one last final fit of the tip rib. I am highly impressed with how perfectly the factory has has formed the tip rib. It
fits really nice! Then time for a review of the plans to make sure that I have everything as it should be, and I didn't miss anything.
May 20, 2008 ... Final riveting of the left aileron took up most of my "wing" time today. But I am really happy with
the fit and finish of the left aileron. I finished out my time by cleaning the left aileron, and covering it with white contact
paper, as I have been doing with all of my assemblies all along.
May 26, 2008 ... I did a lot of clean-up around the shop today, in preparation of putting on the left wing skins.
I reviewed the Sonex technique for squaring and leveling the wing and studied the photos from several builder websites. I think
I am ready!
