While my Sonex project is a long way off from construction of the cockpit, and installation of the panel, I have been researching options for instrumentation. I have found that the "sky is the limit" (if you will excuse the pun) when it comes to possibilities, and the cost can soar into the stratosphere. After receiving my kit from Sonex and seeing the size of the panel, I had a realistic picture of the space available, and I may have to make some adjustments to stay within space lmitations.
Some of the obvious considerations that went into my panel design included efficient use of space, weight and depth of instrumentation and wiring, and of course, my budget. The panel shown above reflects my most recent design and best achieves my goals. I used ePanel Builder to layout the panel, and my Paint Shop Pro graphics software to add and edit features. The panel includes the "basic three" (analog) instruments: Altimeter, Airspeed, and Compass; the Stratomaster "Enigma" digital EFIS; a transponder, my portable NAV/COMM radio; intercom controls; the new AeroConversions Throttle Quadrant, and the AeroConversions trim control, along with the other panel essentials.
