January 22, 2007 ... I primed the Horizontal Stabilizer airframe with zinc chromate, and started the process of fitting
the trailing edge tip rib. Keeping the rib symetrically in line is important. The way I achieved that was to make a simple gauge
out of some aluminum flat stock and a smooth flat block. I first measured and marked the center of the end rib and tip rib. Then,
I layed the stabilizer airframe flat on the work table and made my gauge the exact height of the center markings. When it comes
time to attach the tip rib, I will check the tip rib center line against the gauge.
January 23, 2007 ... Today, most of my shop time was spent fitting the elevator hinges, and fitting the fiberglass tips.
I used my trusty little adjustable square to assure proper alignment of the hinge and make sure that the edge of the skin remains
perfectly on center with the hinge pin holes.
After installing Clecos on the hinges, I put the elevators on. Everything lined up perfectly!
I wanted the elevators on so that when I fit the fiberglass tips the trailing edges of the tips align perfectly with the elevator
trailing edges. I had another great discovery today! The leading edges of the fiberglass tips match up with the stabilizer
leading edges (no gaps like the vertical stabilizer); indicated by yellow arrow.
Here 's another view of the elevators with the control horn temporarily installed. This is going together so well, I almost don't
believe it! The drawings are great!
